What does it mean to be a Product Owner on a Scrum Team? The role of a Product Owner is much more than just writing User Stories and prioritizing them.

As a Product Owner, you are an integral figure in the Scrum Team, playing a crucial role. However, it is also one of the most challenging roles in agile development. This course equips you with the necessary knowledge and tools to master this complex role and ensure effective collaboration with the rest of your organization.

You deserve two days of intensive focus on all the opportunities and pitfalls you need to know as a Product Owner. We will teach you how to function as a link between customer needs and the development team. We will also focus on how you can clearly and inspiringly communicate the product vision.

Course Content

During the course, you will work with the following modules:

• Agile, Scrum, and self-organizing teams
  ‍We set the stage for the course with a brief introduction to Agile and the Scrum framework, including roles, artefacts, and events
• Product Owner role
  ‍Understand your responsibilities as a Product Owner and your role for the Scrum Team and the organization. Learn how to handle the complexity of and around the product and what it means to develop using empirical process theory.
• Product Backlog
  How many User Stories should you have in a Product Backlog, and how do you split a User Story? Here, you will acquire the tools needed to work effectively with your Product Backlog, use User Stories, and know who writes, refines, and maintains them.
• Release Management
  ‍Sharpen your skills on how you and your team continuously deliver value to customers in small iterations. Learn how to forecast what can be delivered and when.
• Value-driven product development
  Learn to create more value in the product by proactively responding to changes. You will learn how to work with metrics to measure whether the product meets expected value and how to maximize value for users and the organization. You will also get a grip on how UX competencies work within a Scrum Team and why it is crucial for the value created in the product.
• Dependencies to others and (de-)scaling
  ‍Dependencies don't disappear overnight with Agile. We delve deep into the different types of dependencies that exist. Which strategies can you use to manage them? And what are the alternatives to just introducing a Chief Product Owner?

In the course, we teach based on principles from "Training from the Back of the Room". Expect a minimum of slides, flips, handouts, and concrete team collaboration on a comprehensive case. There will, of course, also be time and space for dialogue and Q&A.

After the course, you will have the opportunity to take Scrum.org's certification exam: Professional Scrum Product Owner I.
