What is a Product Coach, really?

A Product Coach is a specialist who helps teams and organizations improve their ability to develop and deliver successful products. The role focuses on enhancing processes, strategies, and tools for areas such as discovery work and roadmap planning, all with the goal of strengthening focused and efficient collaboration in product development.

In Denmark, the title and role are still relatively uncommon, whereas in the US, it is frequently seen in product-driven organizations.

A Product Coach differs from a Product Manager (PM) in that a PM is responsible for a specific product or product area, making decisions about features, roadmaps, and priorities. A Product Coach, on the other hand, acts as a mentor or consultant, supporting multiple teams and PMs in improving their workflows and decision-making processes.

In Denmark, many people who effectively function as Product Coaches may hold different titles, such as Scrum Master, Program Manager, or Innovation Consultant.

Admission Requirements

To enroll in the course, you must:

  • Have (or have had) experience with product development in your work.

  • Be able to invite 2-3 fellow participants to a practice day at your company.

  • Participate in an initial interview about your experience with product development.

  • Complete a self-assessment and submit a case description from your company that you will work on during the course.

Contents

The Professional Product Coach course balances theory and practice with direct application to your daily work. It begins with an online foundation module that introduces key principles and tools, followed by four in-person modules. Throughout the course, you will work on a real case from your own company to ensure practical learning.

You will be introduced to the key principles and tools that form the foundation of the course.

You will also have an individual coaching session where we create a personalized learning plan based on your goals and the case you wish to work on during the program.

Module 1

DAY 1 & 2

Product Basics

In the first module, we focus on the fundamental principles of product-oriented development. We also work on understanding your organization and the requirements for driving and facilitating change toward a product-driven organization.

Work in a learning group + individual case work in your own company

Between modules, you will collaborate with your learning group and work individually on a concrete case within your own company.

Module 2

DAY 3 & 4

Building Blocks of the Product-Driven Organization

In this module, we dive into the essential elements that make up a product-driven organization. The focus is on supporting product teams in their work with product vision, product strategy, OKRs, product discovery, and other key product practices.

Company Practice in Learning Groups

As part of the course, you will have the opportunity to experience how another participant works on their case within their organization.

DAY 5 & 6

Supporting Product Teams and Practices

In the final module, we tie everything together and explore how an organization can be structured around product work. We examine the necessary roles and responsibilities and how to best organize product teams for success.

You will also have the opportunity to involve your leader online during part of the module.

DAY 7

Certification

The course concludes with a certification day, where you will demonstrate your newly acquired skills by solving a case. This day also serves as a celebration of your journey, the knowledge you’ve gained, and the professional network you’ve built.

Morten Lundsby Jensen has extensive experience in product development and operational roles, both in startups and large enterprises.

With a background in UX design and product management, he has worked as a leader, specialist, and instructor at companies including Google in Europe and the U.S. Before becoming a consultant and trainer at Syndicate, he served as Sr. Director of Product Operations at the software company Zendesk.
